Supporting women who have experienced domestic and family violence or abuse.

Mary’s House refuge

Welcome to Mary’s House refuge, a community-funded refuge located in Sydney’s northern suburbs, dedicated to providing immediate critical care, safety, and shelter for women and their children escaping domestic and family violence.

Mary’s House refuge was the first of our services and is symbolic of our community’s commitment to saying no to domestic violence and abuse in all its forms.

Offering safe accommodation can reduce the risks associated with victimisation and most importantly, can save the lives of women and their children.

Our refuge is a cozy, warm and welcoming environment which can accommodate four women and their children every night of the year.

Mary’s House refuge offers a home of safety, comfort and peace, as one way of counteracting the effects of an abusive relationship.

Each woman is allocated a tertiary qualified, specialist domestic and family violence social worker, to support their journey away from abuse, and to support them in their choices and setting goals for their future.

Clients are connected to helpful services which can support their holistic wellbeing and which may provide supports for their children – these services are external or provided via our community outreach service – the Daisy Centre.

Our casework team includes a specialist Housing Coordinator to help women navigate the complex housing situation in Sydney and find alternative accommodation beyond their stay.

Mary’s House Services believes that housing is a human right – we are committed to supporting women and children’s rights right to secure safe and affordable housing and achieve this most fundamental form of safety.

Women who stay at our refuge are also supported with relocation services which may involve the organisation of moving personal belongings and setting up a new home, and connection to services and other organisations which can support the transition.

Our aim is to minimise the stress involved in relocation, at the same time as planning for a woman’s and her children’s safety.
