Crowd funding campaign report
Mary’s House has run an innovative crowd funding campaign over June and July 2016.
The campaign was a huge success, garnering more than $107,000 in donations.
The campaign featured a video with former Channel 7 news presenter Chris Bath, who emphasises the need for places of refuge such as Mary’s House.
Crowd funding champion, Louise McCoach, credits the campaign for facilitating community cooperation beyond financial assistance.
‘What has heartened me most is the number of conversations about domestic violence and that the campaign has sparked in the community, whether it may be on the commute to work, at my desk with colleagues or out and about during the weekend. Men and women are genuinely interested in what we are trying to achieve and want to talk about the problem and how they can be part of the solution. Many others have come forward with offers of help beyond financial assistance, further growing our circle of friends, volunteers and supporters. This is the power of the crowd fund – it is not just about the money.
The money will be used to support the ongoing operations of Mary’s House, providing 19 beds for women and children escaping domestic violence.
Through this participatory culture, the Mary’s House crowd funding campaign will empower and support women and their children to live full and active lives.
